COVID-19 May 2021 Update

Amesbury Soccer Association adheres to the guidance and regulations set forth by the state of Massachusetts and Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association.   Below reflects are current guidelines:

For youth soccer players aged 18 years and under, face coverings are not required when outdoors.

o   At player or parent discretion, players may continue to wear a mask while playing soccer.

Players need to bring a mask with them to games and practices.

o   ASA is requesting that players wear face coverings when on the bench with other players.

o   Teams will avoid huddles for the remainder of the season

Coaches and officials do not need to wear a mask as long as they maintain 6 feet of distance.

o   ASA coaches will continue to don face coverings for all situations closely interacting with our players.

Parents and spectators are no longer required to wear face coverings outdoors when social distancing (>6’ from others) can be maintained.

o   ASA asks that parents and spectators have a face covering with them in the event that social distancing cannot be maintained or close interaction is needed.

o   Due to the larger number of young players and adults participating in ASA’s Kickin’ It Program, program director Rob Busch has asked that all parents and spectators continue to wear face coverings at  Kickin’ It at Woodsom Farm on Sundays.

It is ASA’s mission to provide soccer in a safe and fun environment for the youth of Amesbury.  The health and safety of our players, coaches, volunteers, and parents is always our priority.

Amesbury Soccer Association would like to thank everyone in our program for your assistance and support in managing COVID-19. Should there be any questions about ASA programs or ASA's COVID-19 procedures, please contact or ASA’s COVID-19 Safety Officer (Paul Malburg)

ASA will be offering fall soccer for players in Grades 1 to 8.  The focus will be on fun and giving our players an opportunity for soccer and to be active.  Additional details are provided below.

  • ASA soccer activities will be COVID-modified following Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association Return to Soccer Guidelines. The number of spectators will be limited, and each team/age group will have assigned COVID-19 coordinators to assist teams in safe soccer activities.

  • Fall soccer will consist of one weeknight practice with games at Amesbury Sports Park on Saturdays. Details of the games will be age-group specific based on the number of players signed up.

  • ASA Soccer for Grades 5 to 8 is aiming to start on September 12. ASA Soccer for Grades 1 to 4 is aiming to start on September 19. More details will follow as ASA volunteers make all coordination and preparations.

  • Games will be mostly in-town (only ASA players). ASA is communicating with neighboring towns (Newburyport, Georgetown, Merrimac) about the potential for inter-town scrimmages later in the fall.
  • All players will receive a reversible Pinney/jersey.

  • All players will require a MA Youth Soccer Player Registration Waiver.

  • ASA is preparing a set of COVID-19 planning documents for players, parents, coaches, and volunteers. These will be posted on ASA’s webpage.

  • ASA will host a Zoom meeting prior to re-starting soccer activities to provide information about the programs and answer questions.  The video will be recorded.

  • Due to health concerns associated with COVID-19, ASA will not offer Kickin’ It (ages 3 to Kindergarten) or TOPS-Soccer during Fall 2020. We eagerly hope to offer these programs in Spring 2021.

  • ASA is always looking for additional volunteers. Please reach out to any board member or coach if you can provide assistance.  There are many roles outside of coaching too.
  • Players who registered for Fall Travel soccer will be contacted shortly regarding differential refunds for the difference between the fee for Travel Soccer and ASA Fall 2020 Soccer.

We will continue to keep our parents and players updated via email and the ASA Facebook page. The safety of our players, coaches, and volunteers is a priority to ASA. Please continue to be safe and take steps to prevent exposure and illness for you, your family, and other members of our community. If anyone has any questions feel free to contact me, your player’s coach, or any of the other board members.

Thank you for your participation in Amesbury Soccer.

Hello to Amesbury Soccer Association community.

We hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy and practicing social distancing and best practices to stay healthy.

We want to provide some soccer related updates. With the schools closed until May 4th, the earliest that any games could be scheduled is the weekend of May 9th and 10th, if these deadlines are not changed. ASA is staying update with the various leagues and organizations that our association participates in, and we as an organization will continue to provide updates.

I know that I can speak on behalf of the ASA Board and our coaches, that we miss being on the fields with all of our wonderful players. This upcoming weekend would have been opening weekend for our travel teams. In the absence of organized soccer, we want to provide some soccer skills activities that our players can use at home to get moving and work on foot skills.

The first 4 links are all related to foot-skills and dribbling. They get increasingly more technical, but even the first video are skills that we still use as warmup with our older travel players. The others are both challenging and fun.

In addition, Seacoast United has shared 2 of their own workout plans. These are weekly soccer and fitness programs that they have developed for the Seacoast United players and offered these to ASA for our players too.  I have been working with my son on these programs, and they are really great for building fitness and sharpening soccer skills.  (Thank you Seacoast!)

 1.     Four Minutes to Fast Feet

2.     Cuts to Change Direction

3.     Coerver Method – 30 Drills for Ball Control

4.     More Advanced Foot Drills for Ball Control

5.      Seacoast United Home Workout Plan - Week 1

6.      Seacoast United Workout Plan - Week 2

The safety of our players, coaches, and volunteers is a priority to ASA. Please be safe and take steps to prevent exposure and illness for you, your family, and other members of our community.

We at ASA will continue to keep you updated on our organization and soccer activities.  If anyone has any questions feel free to contact me, your player’s coach, or any of the other board members.

Thank you for your participation in Amesbury Soccer.

Amesbury Soccer Association Update regarding COVID-19

To Amesbury Soccer Association community

The Amesbury Soccer Association has been closely monitoring the status of the - coronavirus  (COVID-19) and how it will impact our soccer programs. Fortunately for ASA we are in the pre-season period and do not have many programs currently. The safety of our players, coaches, and volunteers is the top priority to ASA, and we want to be proactive in minimizing exposure risk to COVID-19.

There are a lot of ASA soccer programs scheduled this spring. ASA is in contact with the different leagues and organizations that we participate in. At this time ASA is providing the following updates:

  • Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association has suspended all affiliated and sanctioned soccer activities statewide through April 15th due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, including but not limited to all games, practices, clinics, training, tournaments, in-person meetings and Coaching Education Courses.
  • The ASA Board of Directors meeting scheduled for April 13 will be hosted remotely via conference call.

Therefore ASA has canceled the remaining sessions for  TOPSoccer and our Winter Training held at Seacoast United.

ASA will continue to provide additional updates in the next 2 weeks regarding upcoming Sping soccer activities, including:

  • Essex County travel soccer games (5th/6th, 7th/8th, and High School teams),
  • MVP League games (3rd/4th Grade teams),
  • Kickin-It (age 3-5),
  • In-Town League (Grade 1&2), and
  • TOPSoccer

Players will also be contacted by their coaches or program directors with updates on practice days and times for the spring once soccer activities resume.

In the meantime, please be safe and smart. We recommend that you take steps to prevent exposure and illness. Best practices include

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth prior to proper washing or disinfecting.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Follow the CDC's recommendations for using a face mask.
    • CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including Coronavirus.
    • CDC recommended face masks should be used by people who show symptoms to help prevent the spread of the disease.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

Thank you for your participation in Amesbury Soccer.
