Amesbury Soccer Association TOPSoccer Program
Become a TOPSoccer Buddy!
What is TOPSoccer? :
Amesbury TOPSoccer began in the fall of 2017. It is a modified version of soccer practice/games that offers young athletes with special needs the opportunity to play soccer who may have challenges that otherwise prevent them from participating in a traditional soccer program. TOPSoccer enables kids with special needs to develop soccer skills, build self-esteem, work together with other athletes, and have fun in a supportive environment. TOPSoccer buddies are volunteers ages 14+ who are partnered with elementary or middle school TOPSoccer athletes. Training and support will be provided by TOPSoccer coaches.
● Buddies support players with games and activities, team scrimmages, and cheer them on.
● Buddies work together with other buddies and coaches to help make the player’s soccer experience a fun and positive one.
● Buddies have compassion, patience, a love of the game, and the ability to work and connect with different people.
● Buddies can be anyone who has a desire to work with kids with special needs. Some soccer experience is desired but not necessary.
● Buddies need to commit to attending at least 3 out of the 4 sessions. The kids love to see familiar faces and rely on their buddies to be there!
● Buddies develop lasting bonds with players and gain memories and a sense of accomplishment that they, the players, and the families will not soon forget.
● Buddies can earn community service credit through a fun and rewarding experience.
TOPSoccer buddies understand that this is a fun but serious commitment. If the program's Director/ Coach observes a TOPSoccer buddy not fulfilling their responsibility, that buddy may be dismissed from the TOPSoccer session and program.
